Freemasonry: a peculiar system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols

What isFreemasonry?

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. Its roots lie in the traditions and ceremonies of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles. Some rituals are still celebrated today.

Freemasonry has always strived to make good men better by promoting five core principles.

  • Integrity
  • Kindness
  • Honesty
  • Fairness
  • Tolerance

Is Freemasonry for me?

Each Freemason finds something different in Freemasonry. For some it is all about having a fun hobby, for others it is all about keeping traditions alive, or taking part in charitable work and given back to society.
The real question is "What will you bring to Freemasonry?"

Fundraising

One of the core principals upon which Freemasonry is based is that of Charity. Last year Freemasonry in the UK donated over £48m to charitable causes.

Tradition

Freemasonry first started in the Middle Ages. However, it was 1717 when four London Lodges came together to form the United Grand Lodge.
